Join us as we head by coach east on Highway 120 from Manteca along one of San Joaquin Valley’s most bountiful Farm Trails. Learn about historic Oakdale, Lover’s Leap and Knight’s Ferry. Be met by a Columbia State Historic Park docent for a specially arranged tour. Explore the largest collection of existing gold rush era structures, and experience the story of its people, the early gold seekers who came here from all over the globe. After the tour, make your own candle, stroll the wooden sidewalks and visit the historic town’s museums and shops. Consider taking a stagecoach ride, or pan for gold. You can see the blacksmith at work at his forge, visit the candy shop for its tempting treats or just relax with a sarsaparilla. When it’s time for lunch, there are several excellent local restaurants from which to choose, or brown bag it and soak up the early California atmosphere. In the early afternoon, we’ll board our coach for the 20-minute ride to Sonora’s renowned Sierra Repertory Theater to see the matinee showing of "Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner." On our return home, we’ll stop at Oakdale Cheese & Specialties for a short cheese making demonstration. After some sampling, you might choose to take some delectable cheese home with you.
