Rodin Centenary

at the Legion of Honor, San Francisco
$80 members/$115 non-members

Come join us in viewing the "greatest collection of Rodin in the world." Auguste Rodin, father of modern art, liberated sculpture from the academic traditions. He transformed bronze, marble and plaster into lifelike figures. Honoring Rodin on the centenary of his death, the Legion of Honor presents a new installation drawn from the Museum's holdings. The Thinker and The Kiss are at the top of the new age of Bronze. For lunch or refreshments join us at the Legion of Honor Cafe.

Degas, Impressionism and The Paris Millinery Trade have been added to the tour as an extra bonus. Best known for his depictions of Parisian dancers and laundresses, Edgar Degas (French, 1834-1917) was enthralled with another aspect of modern life in the French capital: high-fashion hats and the women who created them. This landmark exhibition features more than 40 Impressionist
paintings and pastels, including key works by Degas, as well as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, Mary Cassatt, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Approximately 40 spectacular examples of period hats-- - including nine from the Fine Arts Museums’ collections-- -also will be displayed.
