82nd Annual McKee Student Art Contest & Exhibition

Mar 21, 2013 - May 5, 2013

The Haggin Museum’s annual McKee Student Art Contest & Exhibition—the longest-running student art competition in the United States—returns on March 21, for the first time including digital short films.

The exhibition was first envisioned 82 years ago by The Haggin Museum’s founding patron, Robert T. McKee, whose goal was to encourage students by providing a public venue for their artworks.

The 2013 exhibition, on display March 21 through May 5, contains 1,322 entries from 67 schools in San Joaquin County.

This is the first year of a new category in the contest. High school students were invited to submit short digital films, and six were submitted. The shorts will be shown in one of the galleries and special prizes will be awarded.

The Haggin Museum Education Department has selected Robert Schumacher as judge of the 2013 McKee Student Art Contest.

Schumacher is is an adjunct professor of art at San Joaquin Delta College and Los Rios Community College as well as the owner of Schumacher Architectural Ceramics, which produces custom sinks and decorative tile.

In addition to teaching design fundamentals, Schumacher is an exhibiting artist with shows in galleries in California and beyond. He regularly brings his design classes to the Haggin to view the art collection. We are proud to bring this educator here to award special prizes to the young artists of our community.
