83rd Annual McKee Student Art Contest & Exhibition

Feb 6, 2014 - Apr 6, 2014

The Haggin Museum is proud to feature the work of student artists from kindergarten through grade 12 in the 83rd Annual McKee Student Art Contest and Exhibition.

The exhibition was first envisioned by founding patron Robert T. McKee, whose goal was to encourage students by providing a public venue for their artworks. The critical thinking skills the arts teach our children are as important as the pleasure they bring to the classroom and museum.

All schools in San Joaquin County—public, private, charter and homeschools—receive invitations to submit their work. This year teachers submitted 1,127 entries from 59 schools in San Joaquin County.

Due to the immense number of entries, the walls of the West and Tuleburg Galleries are covered from top to bottom with art. They are filled with two- and three-dimensional art works created in crayon, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylic paint.

In addition to the traditional entries, this marks the second year with the addition of digital entries. High school students were invited to submit short digital films, and nine were received. The shorts will be shown in one of the galleries and special prizes will be awarded.
